A $13.5 million Series A financing in early 2013 helped fuel the company’s explosive growth. Picaboo was renamed Snapchat in 2012, and by the end of that year, it was clear that the start-up was onto something big. Snapchat originally began its life as a project called Picaboo in 2011.Ĭofounders Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, who were attending Stanford, began building an app that could send photos that disappear after a certain amount of time. Snapchat’s wild ride from start-up to massive success is well documented, so we’ll focus on key elements of story-product design, the Facebook rivalry-and look at how the company is doing today now that the hype surrounding the app has died down.īut first, a quick history… Setting the Scene The graphic above is a high level look at Snapchat’s 10-year history, including user growth and financials. The company’s stock has recently shot up during the COVID-19 pandemic, a bright spot in a decade of highs and lows. Using screen recording apps, or apps designed to save Snaps, you’ll be sure to have easy access to snaps even after they’re gone.Over the years, many ideas have emerged from the dorm rooms at Stanford University, but not all of them evolve into billion dollar companies. The best way to see old Snaps is really to save them. There are more complicated methods of extraction which you can use if all else fails but make every effort to avoid them. These are only a few ways to access expired Snaps and Stories. Your memory will continue to live on for another 24-hours or for one replay (depending on your settings). Select who you want to send it to and tap ‘Send.’ Can I repost a Snap that’s in my Memories?Ībsolutely! If you do find your Snap in the Memories section of the app simply tap on it, then tap the arrow icon in the lower right-hand corner. If the files don’t appear, it’s likely because the temporary folder has been emptied by the system, and unfortunately, there isn’t a way to recover the Snaps at this point. Your Snaps go to a temporary cache in your phone. If you’ve gone through the tutorial above and have yet to find your deleted Snaps it’s because the data is only temporary.
